Good Group, But Some Bad Politics!

    Fund: Versant Ventures

Posted by MedDev Gal on 2008-07-18

    PUBLIC:

They are a good group overall. Some partners are Excellent (Bill Link, Ross Jaffe, Don Milder) some not so good (Samuels, Wasserstein, Warden). Pick the right ones!

THey definitely are not keeping talent in the SoCal office. All the power base seems to be coming from NorCal, but the partners up there are not as talented. Maybe they are stretched too thin since they are in the thick of Sand Hill Road.

These guys are GREAT! They are very helpful, they have lots of experience, which they bring readily to the table, they help wherever they can, and they have the best brand in healthcare VCs. Can't beat them!

The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly

    Fund: Versant Ventures

Posted by MedTech Expert on 2007-12-03

    PUBLIC:

Versant has a lot of good – good track record in the life sciences, experienced venture investors with start-up operating experience, and plenty of investment capital. It also has some bad – avoids most seed stage investments (too much risk), and avoids smallish investments in favor of putting larger amounts of money to work (the larger the fund…the larger the investment and existing shareholder dilution). And of course, there is the ugly – Becky appears to have some baggage. I have heard her trash companies and people she has not firsthand knowledge of. She appears to be one of those highly opinionated people who makes up her mind and does not want to be confused by the facts.
