FIRM OVERVIEW: Very Small Private VC founded in 2004 based out of Palo Alto, USA (US West)

FIRM DESCRIPTION: SoftTech VC has invested in over 100 consumer internet startups since 2004. One of the original micro-vc firms, we started as business angels - investing our own money in 20+ deals over 3 years. We then raised a $15M fund (SoftTech VC II) in 2007, and announced our $35M fund (SoftTech VC III) in December 2010.

After reviewing our exec summary, Jeff took our initial pitch meeting. He passed, but he failed to disclose that he had already made an investment in a competing company...

Great Early Stage VC: Jeff is a Real Asset

Fund: SoftTech VC

PUBLIC:

I think Jeff will become a superstar in the next few years, as he has already has made some successful exits. More importantly for me, though, he has been a very entrepreneur-friendly investor. His due diligence process is quick. He is fairly transparent in his decision making. And moves quickly when he decides to invest. Post investment he has been very engaged in giving solicited advice, contacting other prospective investors on our behalf and even generating a little press for us.

Classy and to the Point

Fund: SoftTech VC

Posted by Anonymous on 2010-01-10

PUBLIC:

He was very to the point and upfront about the space he invests in. Didn't waste time in asking questions like some angels/VC's who never have the intent but want to dig for as much information.

Great Advice

Fund: SoftTech VC

PUBLIC:

I have reached out to Jeff asking for advice. He referred me to his partner Charles Hudson, and even though it became clear early on that SoftTechVC would not invest into the industry we're in, Charles took the time talking to me on the phone for almost 30 minutes. He was very open with advice and gave us very valuable insight.

If You are So Overloaded, Why Call US In?

Fund: SoftTech VC

PUBLIC:

This guy has a bad case of ADD and really pretends to be super busy all the time. Everything mentioned in the above two reviews and comments (the negative parts that is) seem to be true. This guy is an A class self promoter with all other skills being questionable. No follow up, discourteous, pretending to be constantly busy or on vacation. Would not recommend wasting your time to meet him at all.
