I've known the firm for 6+ years having both raised money from them at one start-up and then later joined one of their funded start-ups.

I've found the team to be extremely ethical, committed and resourceful. Our primary contact has been Carl and he's always been available to tackle issues with us, hear our perspectives and share his experience. Carl's been great at understanding the nuances of our business, surfacing the key issues (some of which, being too close to it, we might have missed) and coming up with options/solutions. Like most start-ups, we've hit a few rough patches along the road and he's always been there to help us address the problems and brought in extra resources where we needed it. When it came time for follow-on funding he helped us strategically position our business, communicate our story and get us in front of the right new investors so we were able to close funding pretty efficiently. In sum, it's been a successful and enjoyable partnership.

In raising our $6m first round Outlook did a very nice job during due diligence. Carl led the efforts and was analytical, focused on key issues, helped us think through some gaps and worked efficiently. As a result we chose Outlook to be our co-lead and have been very happy with that choice. Carl's a very supportive Board member, always available and provides useful ideas/perspectives. He's low key and easy to work with.

We pitched our Series A deal to a dozen firms and would rank Outlook near the top of the firms we met. The Outlook folks were interested in getting to know us and hear our plan then shared good ideas from their experiences. Very thoughtful, low egos and productive session.

We submitted our proposal to Outlook and in short order received an e-mail response from Cindy Padnos that they were fully funded. We took great care to customized our proposals to the criteria of each fund. It would be nice to know that they are "closed".

Randy Haykin Gives Great Advice

Randy Haykin understood both the value proposition of our business and the difficulties with raising an A round as a consumer-facing enterprise. The consumer is fickle and VCs want to see viral growth in order to lower their risk. But at the early, pre-viral stage its tough to raise funds. Randy gave solid advice and I appreciated his efforts.
