Quick Decision, No Bs, Honest

Fund: Fairhaven Capital

Posted by jacktownsend on 2010-03-04

PUBLIC:

The answer was a "No", but they were quick, efficient, inquisitive, smart, willing to think outside the box. Goldinger and Grinnell were great. Jim in particular was willing to look way out side their comfort zone to figure out what we were doing. But in the end, we were turned down, which was okay. We received very good feedback, help on some ways to initially present to a new audience that would cut through some of the "initial due diligence questions" that pop up about our specific industry, and get to the meat of our story. All in all, they did us a good service. Wish they would have invested, but we did get value from the interaction.

Helpful, but Too Careful...

Fund: Fairhaven Capital

PUBLIC:

We did a pitch to them, and the reception was great. They got engaged quickly and started getting potential customers involved. That part was great. They seem to be timid to venture in new spaces, so it didn't go anywhere, but these guys are connected, so I think they could add a lot of value to investments.

I have had several interactions with Rudina Seseri a principal at Fairhaven. She has been very attentive to our needs for contacts as well as meeting introductions.

Claim to Be Early Stage but Have No Idea What It Means

Fund: Fairhaven Capital

PUBLIC:

Wasted more time with these guys than everyone else combined. They have no idea how to make a decision. Always asking for more yet understanding nothing about early stage issues.

Good Listener, Helpful Feedback

Fund: Fairhaven Capital

Posted by Matt Eagar on 2008-04-09

PUBLIC:

Fairhaven Capital is just setting up shop (in fact, we met with them at 101 Federal St in Boston, and their website now lists an address in Cambridge), although the partners are all experienced VCs from TD Capital Ventures.
We pitched to Mark Hatfield, formerly of TD Capital as well as Motorola Ventures. This was one of our first VC pitches back in February, and Mark was great. He came prepared to our meeting, having reviewed our executive summary beforehand. He put us at ease, and listened intently throughout (turned off the ringer of his Blackberry when it rang ten minutes into the presentation, maintained eye contact, asked good questions at appropriate times, etc).
I was glad that Mark seemed to understand what we are doing and the uniqueness of our idea. He had some great feedback at the time, including suggestions as far as potential business partners that we have run with since. Later, he was open in sharing specific and helpful feedback from his partners (we sold them on our idea, but not the market size). Overall, a positive experience.
