The Amplifier Fund is doing a good job of filling in the information gap to the earliest stage investors and has taken a position to help educate CEO's and founders that are seeking angel and pre series A funding for the first time. The classes they offer and the blogs they maintain are designed to educate and familiarize individuals with the venture community and the venture funding process. Our experience has been very good and we have received good value from the feedback we have received in our interactions with Amplifier.

Amplifier served a critical role with us as our seed financing partner. Any entrepreneur that has been through the exercise of raising capital understands how much time is involved in raising an A round of capital. Amplifier Ventures served a critical role in not only assisting us with our business plan and providing capital - Amp also made all the key introductions to only the most logical of venture firms that represented the best fits. Jonathan introduced us to Intersouth Partners, our lead venture firm. Jonathan Aberman has been a key partner and I gladly recommend them to experienced entrepreneurs who understand just how valuable this is.

I found that Amplifier Venture Partners is very much focused on filling the gap between seed and early stage funding. We were not looking for funding, but just for advice and key members of their team took a few hours of their time to provide us with very insightful guidance. They seemed very willing to help new entrepreneurs, therefore I would highly recommend any founder based in the DC Metro area, that is new to startups, to schedule some time with them for a "no judgement" feedback session.

Amplifier prefers investments within a small focus and with IP defensibility. Jonathan was an attorney in his past life and has seen a lot of deals. He provides great feedback and has a heart of gold. He told me he prefers not to meet entrepreneurs because he hates to say no but for the sake of his investors, he must focus on what they know and are comfortable with.
Although we didn't do a deal with him, due to limited IP defensibility and also he's raising more capital so timing isn't right, if you do meet with him he will provide you great advice even on how best to phrase your pitch, etc. If you get the chance, take the meeting - it will help.
