Regarding the posts on Andy Goldfarb and Globespan, I wanted to take a few minutes to share my perspective, having worked with many venture investors over the years (including Andy), and I thus have the basis to compare and contrast .
I worked with Andy (and the extended Globespan team) over several years, and my experience with Andy was simply fantastic. Andy was the new lead investor on one of our financings, and from the very beginning, he was great to have involved. Negotiating the term sheet and closing the financing, Andy was the consummate professional, with a very fair and highly respectful negotiating style. We completed the financing on time and in accord with the high level terms initially discussed, and Andy was instrumental in making sure things stayed “on track”..
Once on the Board, Andy was extremely helpful to the Company, and highly supportive of management, bringing much more than the cash/capital from the financing to the table. He orchestrated key introductions to some major public company partners for us, helped us fill out the team with some talented new hires from his extended network, provided us help on some strategy and governance matters we needed considerable assistance with, and also connected us to some end user CIO/CTO’s, to help us with initial sales of our product.
Like all start-ups, we experienced several “ups and downs” along the way. Andy was always balanced and supportive (unlike others), particularly when we encountered some challenges. It was during these times that Andy truly shined, providing valuable CEO counsel, helped manage the investor group (including taking a lead role on an complicated inside round) and simply stepped up and helped us get things done when we needed it most.
In closing, I’ve worked with many VC firms and partners over the years, at a few different companies. To net it out, in my opinion Andy is simply top notch (as is his whole team at Globespan) and on this 1-5 rating scale (with 5 being top), Andy deserves a 5+ in my book, given the specific experiences I had in the recent past. Hope this helps.
